Barclays' move sends credit card interest rates lower
The rate of credit card interest down slightly for the second straight week as more banks begin to offer testing for the spring.
The national average annual percentage rate (APR) on the new credit card offers dropped to 14.65 percent Wednesday, according to the CreditCards.com Weekly Credit Card Rate Report. The drop - just one hundredth of a percentage point - was low, but it pushed the national average to its lowest level in three months.
slight decline this week has been stimulated by a trial offer from Barclays. During our weekly assessment of the interest rate on credit cards, U.S. BarclaysPrime Airways World MasterCard receive multirate several weeks in a row. For example, we saw a series of 15.99 percent to 24.99 percent on the map. However, the transmitter also provides simultaneous range map old offer of 15.24 percent to 18.24 percent, depending on when and where we focused on its website. The difference in rates offered online indicates that the bank has not yet settled on an offer.
To reflect the differences we have seen in the Barclays offer in April for the U.S. Airways card, we adjusted the low end of the card this week 15.99 per cent to 15.24 per cent in the database CreditCards.com. We then left the credit card of the upper end of 24.99 percent - which is one of the most original on file for APR credit applicants in less-than-stellar.
This is the fourth time this year that Barclays has adjusted interest rates on U.S. Airways Premier World MasterCard, the bank continues to test possible rate.
Responding to a request for comment on the different rates, Kevin Sullivan, spokesman for Barclays, said in an e-mail: "Many factors determine the rate associated with a particular card offer. We offer several combinations of different products in different channels -. Designed to meet different customer needs "
Experts say that banks often find deals on credit cards to see what rate is more successful in attracting candidates, while maintaining profitability. Accordingly, multiple offers on a map - with different ranges April and sometimes varying conditions of the promotion - can be available, depending on where and when you watch. This means that if a bank is testing an offer on a credit card, you can see a different range in APR terms and conditions of your application for another candidate applying for the same card.
Now that credit card issuers are more comfortable with the economy and sending more mailings of credit cards, the total number of trial offers may be more as well, experts say.
