Low Interest Credit Cards – Best Offers Today
Digital News Report – Not all credit cards are created equal. Some cards offer low interest rates while other offer higher rates with better perks.
This is an evaluation of three “low interest” credit cards we think are excellent choices for today. All three require excellent credit scores but carry no annual fee.
The Capital One® Platinum Prestige Credit Card gives borrowers a low interest rate with other perks. They offer 24-hour road service and travel accident insurance. They also offer no annual fee and an introductory rate of zero percent for all purchase and balance transfers through June 2012.
The Chase Freedom® Visa – $100 Bonus Cash Back offers zero percent interest on balance transfers for 12 months and purchases for six months. They have an incredibly low interest rate of 9.99% APR. Their rate could be as high as 22.99%.
They offer 5% cash back on purchases at department stores, gas stations, home improvement stores and more. Now they rotate that promotion, depending on the quarter. Check with the bank for details.
The Citi® Platinum Select® Visa® is another great card because the offer an 18 month introductory period. The continuing rate is variable between 11.99%-20.99%.
St.George Vertigo MasterCard - 0% Balance Transfer Credit Cards
It is probably more important for most people to have a standard low interest rate than to have a special rate that only lasts for a few months. The St.George MasterCard has been a good credit provider for a while as signified by Money Magazine awarding it the honour of being the cheapest balance transfer credit card in 2009.
The new model Vertigo has many of the features that most card holders look for and it does not saddle them with high fees or interest charges. Here are some comments and observations.
Why the St.George Vertigo DeliversBesides a clean look, the Vertigo has a number of great features that make it a top contender among all the credit cards in Australia. It holds its own with Visa and American Express, and here are some reasons why.
The first item to catch your eye about the card is the low standard rate. A 12.74% rate is a vast improvement over most of the competition. Sure, you can find lower rates, especially the six month low rates, but after that limited period most other cards are back up to 19% to 21%. Only two other cards offer a better standard interest rate at this time, and they are the no frills kind with limited options.
The six month special rate for balance transfers of 2.99% does not look as good as those 0% cards. Most of them only provide relief for six months and then kick in with the high interest numbers. The St.George is more of an advantage for those who are looking at an extended time to pay back those balances. Realistically, the person who has high balances in the first place probably will not be able to pay it all back in six months. The balance transfer feature definitely rates as a positive for the Vertigo.
Comparing the FeaturesThe Vertigo is not tops in all categories, but no other card can boast of that either. Other than the interest rates, here are some points of interest compared to other cards.
The $55 annual fee for using the card is pretty much a standard for cards that don’t have the features of the Vertigo. A couple of cards have no annual fees but they are pay as you go credit cards, and two or three more have rates in the $44-$50 range. So this is not a great rate, but it is better than those that charge $150. Interest free days can be deceiving for any credit card.
