Bean cardholders LL said vendor files were consulted

LL Bean credit card holders were notified this weekend that a third accessed files containing a provider of marketing customer names and e-mail.

Carolyn Beem, a spokesman for Freeport-based retailer, said the company was informed Friday that someone had access to files maintained by Epsilon, a provider of marketing used by Barclays Bank of Delaware to send emails.

Beem said LL Bean has been said that financial or personal information was compromised, but it urged the cardholders do not give out personal information in response to e-mails future.

Barclays will never ask a client in an e-mail to verify sensitive information such as passwords or a person's social security number, the company said in its notification to customers.

Customers who have concerns or questions are invited to call the phone number that appears on the back of their credit card.

Building fire sends three to hospital

The Office of the state fire marshal is investigating a fire early in the morning in a building of four homes that sent three people to hospital.

Sanford Firefighters responding to a call at 0:22 Sunday found heavy fire in an apartment on the second floor at 35 rue Lebanon

All residents evacuated the building, and firefighters extinguished the fire within an hour.

Three residents were transported to HDGoodall Hospital, two for the treatment of smoke inhalation and one because of a preexisting medical problem.

The three other apartments sustained smoke and water damage and are not fit for human habitation. The Red Cross is helping displaced residents find shelter.

Umaines Composites Center receives national award

The University of Maine and composite structures of the Centre was recognized by a prestigious national award for innovation.

The Center received the Award for Innovation Pankow a gala dinner Thursday in Washington, DC, Established by the American Society of Civil Engineering.

The center was honored for the development of its so-called "bridge in a backpack" technology, which allows materials used to make bows for the bays to be brought to a construction site in duffel bags .
