Barclaycard carrot for balance transfers
The deal allows new borrowers to transfer a balance from a competitor's card and be charged no interest for 20 months up from 18 months.Previously the card had offered 16 months at 0%.
But there is a catch. The fee has gone up from 2.9% to 3.2%.
By way of comparison, both Virgin and MBNA offer zero per cent on balance transfers for 18 months, but their fees are lower at 2.89 and 2.88% respectively.
The price war is good news for cardholders looking to clear a balance at minimal cost, but these best-buy cards will be available only to those with a high credit score .
Nationwide Building Society has a zero per cent transfer deal for 17 months with a 2.95% fee while NatWest offers 16 months with a 2.9% charge.
