Halifax Clarity's 2% cashback on balance transfers
But because the agreement does not come with a rate of 0%, supply is only likely to be attractive to those seeking to erase their debt almost immediately.Halifax is the introduction of new perk 2% cashback card to transfer balances for free changed over within 90 days of account opening.
This means that someone transferring £ 3,000 would get the maximum £ 60 award.
The offer is available to all new customers applying for the card purity from now until March 6, 2011.
Clarity is the only card not to charge fees for balance transfers - usually 3% on other cards. But Clarity holders pay 12.9% on the balance - whereas best buy cards offer 0% for more than a year on transfers (see below).
It also has no withdrawal fees if you take out cash, and the representative interest rate of 12.9% applies to both purchases and cash withdrawals. Normally, cash is charged at a far higher rate than purchases.
The sting is that you'll be charged interest from the date you take the cash out even if you pay your next bill off in full.
And you will be offered the 12.9% rate only if you have a very good credit rating, otherwise the rate could be much higher.
There's another way to get cashback with Clarity. Those with a Halifax current account can earn £5 a month provided they spend at least £300 on purchases.
Our verdict: You might think that the 2% cashback offer is free money - it is but only if you exploit this deal properly.
The cashback you get from transferring - and the zero fee - is only worthwhile if you're going to pay off your total balance very quickly. Otherwise you'll only add to the total of your balance with higher interest in the long-term.
For example, if you transfer a balance of £3,000 you will get the maximum £60 cashback. You will also pay interest of 12.9% APR (over £32 a month) on the balance. So you'd need to pay off the total balance in two months to avoid cancelling out the cashback from the offer.
If you want to pay off your balance over a longer length of time then you may find that a life of balance transfer or a 0% deal will be cheaper. (Use our credit card reality check calculator to work out how long it will take you to pay off your balance.)
Barclaycard is currently offering 0% for 17 months on its Platinum Transfer Visa and the Egg Money World Mastercard offers 8.

What is the difference between a regular balance transfer and credit cards based in April?
Well, with a balance transfer, you will find that you will get an introductory rate. With this introductory rate, you will get 0% for a period of time. This amount of time that will vary from 6 to 12 + months. Each bank will be different.
With the APR on your credit card, this is the interest rate you pay when you do not pay your balance in full. For example, if the APR is 15% and you have a balance of $ 500. Let’s say you pay $ 250. That the interest rate will now apply the extra $ 250 for the year and distributed over the months. So, technically, not really paying 15% a month.
